Rodney has guided our group several times now in the keys and we will continue to re-book with him every year.
His knowledge of the area, the fish and different techniques is second to none.
I have fished many times with american guides and Rodney is as knowledgable as any i have met. !
He is a patient teacher and an extremely good all round angler, and a bloody nice bloke too !
I cant recommend his set up enough to anybody who wants a fishing holiday with something for everyone.

A big thank you to John Grindle for a lovely afternoon on Chesil Beach. I have always wanted to catch a cod from this famous beach and today it happened! I have caught bass before but it was cod I really wanted. A few aborted trips due to bad weather were soon forgotten as we settled into a likely spot chosen by John.

Big baits were the order of the day so we lashed some squid and lugworm onto pennel rigs. My biggest mistake was trying to cast too far. John made me drop a bait in close where he suspected the fish would be patrolling. Sure enough he was right! It just goes to show that local advice is so often the key to success. Practical tackle and bait tips from John all lead to a fruitful session.

All in all a very enjoyable afternoon and I'm over the moon with my first Chesil cod. Know anywhere that teaches filleting?!

I was priviledged to have the opportunity to fish the Frome in Dorchester.
Thanks to Johns knowledge I was put on the fish straight away.
We ended up trotting some perfect glides, which resulted in some great fishing.
John was influential in my presentation and to only release a few maggots at a time.

Thank you very much for yesterday, the breakfast was excellent as usual and I had a good chance of a very good fish!
I am sure that if you don't get sick of me first, that I will get that elusive 3lb+ grayling eventually.
My trips to the Frome are one of the highlights of my angling year.
I look forward to having another crack at catching that English 3 pounder in the new year, perhaps 2010 will be the year!

Summer 2009
The best days fishing I've ever had was with you Rob, you gave me the fly, you showed me where to go and how to fish it. I caught my best ever trout an overwintered cracking rainbow of 5.5 pounds, thanks again Rob. Steven Taylor London.

Hi John,

It was great to meet you yesterday.

Dad and I had fantastic day on the River. After we saw you at the top end we went back to the lower water to catch a few more. The results for the day were: Dad had 3 good trout to about 1.5lb and got stripped and broke by a powerful fish. I ended up with 7 trout up to 1 1/4lb and a really good grayling, see the photo, the fish was a bit camera shy!

As we walked back to the car we saw a bloody huge fish hanging in some shallow water just below metal footbridge. It was huge and seemed too big for a brown trout. I tried to take a picture but it spooked up stream into a hole. It looked about 3ft long and dark. It seemed too dark for a sea trout unless it had been in the river a while.

I am keen to book another day or so, is it best to wait until the late summer or does the river fish OK mid summer?

Thanks for a great day, we should go out in the boat sea angling sometime or you should pop up to Somerset for some pike on the fly.

Kind regards
James

He was a most genial host, and when he next comes to the States, he has a place to stay. He even brought along a lunch for two, with sandwiches, hot coffee(!!), potato chips (crisps), cake and fruit. We spent a lot of time just walking the river, looking for rising fish, and taking turns casting to them.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable day. I am hard put to describe how welcome both John made me feel. I would go back in a minute, hopefully after improving my casting an order of magnitude or two.
